Kanat Tilekeyev

Dr. Kanat Tilekeyev is an Associate Director and a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Public Policy and Administration, where he is engaged in research and capacity-building activities in agriculture and rural development, gender and employment, sustainable development and resilience in Central Asia and outside of the region. Prior to joining UCA, Tilekeyev worked as an economist in development projects and private sector (oil, food, agriculture and business consulting. He holds PhD in Economics from University of Giessen, Germany in 2012. His doctoral research defined and empirically validated the main determinants of rural poverty in Kyrgyzstan and provided recommendations for growth in agriculture. He has authored papers and reports with institutions including the University of Central Asia, Asian Development Bank Institute, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and FAO. His research focuses on the informal economy, youth employment, agricultural value chains and the impact of development interventions in Kyrgyzstan and the wider CAREC region.

About the study

The ‘Life in Kyrgyzstan’ Study (LiK Study) is a research-based, open access, multi-topic longitudinal survey of households and individuals in Kyrgyzstan. It tracks the same 3,000 households and 8,000 individuals over time in all seven Kyrgyz regions (oblasts) and the two cities of Bishkek and Osh.

Data Access

The ‘Life in Kyrgyzstan’ Study data is openly available: it can be used by any interested party for non-for-profit research, policy analysis and teaching purposes. The survey questionnaires and interviewer manuals can be downloaded here or on the project web site.
